Three Approaches To Creating A Monument Sign For Your Founder's Statue
Most cities have a statue or monument in a park or centrally-located plaza that is a likeness and dedication to the founder of that city. If you have such a monument/statue, or your city is about to erect one, you will need a plaque or monument sign to go with it. Here are three of the most popular options and approaches to monument signs.
Chiseled in Stone
At the base or on the pedestal of the statue, you can have an expert stone chiseler chisel out dates, words, and a brief dedication. If there is more to be said, your city can make the base quite square, and chisel out the whole dedication around the base on all four sides of said base. There is only one drawback to chiseling in stone or concrete; it wears away quickly. The dedication would have to be re-chiseled in a couple of decades.
An Engraved Plaque
A fully engraved plaque is the second most common approach and option for a dedication sign. The plaque is usually brass or some other shiny metal that will not rust or corrode in all weather. The dedication and dates are hand-engraved by a metals artist using either stamping and acid washing, or an engraving tool with a calligraphy hand and chosen script. Once complete, the plaque can be mounted to the base of the statue, or it can be placed on a pedestal near the statue for visitors to read.
A Laser-Engraved Plaque
This is the engraved plaque, but taken to a whole new level. A CNC laser machine is programmed with everything you want to say on the plaque, and then the sheet of polished metal is placed on the machine's work table below the laser. When the machine is switched on and set to run, the laser immediately begins to imprint and cut into the metal with lightning speed. It is so precise that you can make the print very small, and fit a lot of what the city wants to say about the statue on the plaque. An entire history of that person, and the purpose for the statue and dedication, as well as important dates, can all fit on a smaller plaque because of the laser.
Other Signs
In addition to the plaque that dedicates and discusses the statue, you can have extra signs made up to attach to street posts. These signs direct visitors to the founder's statue, in case they want to know where to go and learn more about the founder. These may also be metal, but they can also be of any other material the city chooses.
